Despite a spate of natural disasters and political crises, Haiti's reconstruction from the 2010 devastating earthquake has made significant advances in 2012.
The number of people who were relocated to temporary camps after the massive quake has now been reduced to 360,000 from the initial 1.3 million.
Several projects have also been carried out to change the destroyed landscape of Port-au-Prince, although the government said it still needs 12 billion U.S. dollars to consolidate the country's reconstruction.
The government has also launched a program against extreme poverty with an initial funding of 13 million dollars for the first year.
In another sign of development, the country's first waste water treatment plant was opened.
The advances were made in a year marred by political crises, an economic slowdown and serious natural disasters.
President Michel Martelly, who came to power in May 2011, has faced several problems in 2012, including fresh anti-government protests and constant rows between the government and the parliament.
In April, Martelly underwent a pulmonary emergency surgery in the United States and had to present documents to prove he was qualified to take the post in order to ease his tension with the parliament, which was investigating his alleged role in the arrest of a congressman in 2011.
In May, the parliament finally ratified Laurent Lamothe as new prime minister, three months after Garry Conille reportedly resigned over growing confrontation between Martelly's government and the opposition-held legislature.
The outgoing year also saw the release of a new Haiti Constitution, which includes some important reforms on such controversial issues as the double-nationality right, which are related to elections in the country.
In February, Martelly rejected allegations that he held double nationalities, which, if validated, would bar him from being the country's head of state.
In 2012, a new Superior Council of the Judicial Power was also established in the country, a new police chief was appointed and at the end of the year, a Permanent Electoral Council was formed, although it can't call mid-term elections.
In the second half of the year, several protests took place in Haiti against the government, insecurity and high living costs, and the extended presence of the UN Stabilization Mission for Haiti (Minustah).
In October, the UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution to extend for another year the mandate of MINUSTAH while withdrawing some mission staff from the Caribbean country.
Economically, the country is not doing as well as it had expected, with a GDP growth of 2.5 percent, much lower than the 7.8 percent predicted at the beginning of the year.
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) blamed the low growth on a difficult agricultural season and hampered reconstruction efforts "because of a recurrent political crisis that delayed the prime minister's ratification as well as the slow outlay of external resources."
Hurricane "Sandy", tropical storm "Isaac" and other storms also aggravated Haiti's economic deceleration, killing about 100 people, affecting 250,000 others and costing the agriculture sector over 100 million U.S. dollars.
These came after the country's agricultural production was hit by a drought in the first half of the year, which together with some other natural disasters, caused 2 million Haitians to suffer food insecurity, according to UN statistics.
Besides various natural disasters, Haiti has also witnessed an array of violent incidents amid a new wave of kidnappings, drug trafficking and others, with nearly 100 people killed each month.
In August, the United Nations denounced Haiti's current insecurity situation, noting that after months of stability, the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince became increasingly insecure.

Ministry targets 8-percent growth in foreign trade
The growth of China's foreign trade in 2012 will come in at about 6 percent, while the Ministry of Commerce set a growth target of 8 percent for 2013, Commerce Minister Chen Deming told the annual meeting of the ministry on Friday.
It was seen as a prudent move amid a challenging external environment and growing efforts to expand domestic demand.
Earlier this year, China set a 10-percent goal for foreign trade growth throughout 2012.
China is the world's biggest exporter and second-largest importer. Imports and exports are projected to "exceed $3.8 trillion throughout 2012 while exports will account for about 11 percent of world exports", according to Chen.
"Our judgment holds that the international trade environment will remain challenging next year, and to thus take a more prudent move. We will attach more importance to improving the quality and efficiency of Chinese foreign trade next year," said ministry spokesman Yao Jian.
He added that China's share in global trade increased to 11.1 percent this year from 10.4 percent in 2011, while the country's foreign trade made progress in brand building, establishing marketing networks and research and development centers.
The first 11 months saw Chinese foreign trade increase by 5.8 percent year-on-year to $3.5 trillion. Export growth in November slowed sharply to 2.9 percent year-on-year, compared with an 11.6 percent surge in October, while imports were flat compared with a year earlier, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
The commerce ministry told a news briefing on Dec 18 that China's foreign trade growth will face strong headwinds in 2013 as the world economy experiences slow growth and protectionism keeps rising.
The sluggish world economy reduced demand for Chinese exports while weak domestic demand accounted for shrinking imports along with the declining prices of imports.
"The 8-percent target for foreign trade growth can be achieved but with hard work as the country is already the world's biggest exporter and is losing its advantage of cheap labor while industrial upgrading demands improvement in workers' productivity and skills," said Li Xunlei, deputy CEO and chief economist of Haitong Securities in Shanghai.
Zhang Xiaoji, director-general of the Foreign Economic Relations Department at the Development Research Center of the State Council, said that foreign trade in 2013 will outperform this year's figures as domestic demand keeps growing and the quantitative easing policies in developed economies will increase demand for Chinese exports.
"But the government should draft a long-term strategy to improve foreign trade, including credit and financing support to increase exports to emerging markets and facilitate imports through cutting import duties and shortening the clearance period," Zhang said.
The ministry will stabilize exports through extending tax rebates and expanding export insurance. Exporters are encouraged to develop new competitive edges through building brands, research centers and international sales networks. Imports of energy and resource products, advanced equipment, key parts and consumption goods will be expanded to balance foreign trade, according to Chen.

China's top legislature on Friday passed rules requiring Internet users to use their real names to identify themselves to service providers when signing web access agreements.
The decision, which aims to ensure online information security and safeguard public interests, has been fearfully interpreted.
Some reports claim that the identity management policy will discourage online muckrakers who have worked to expose corrupt government officials in recent years.
However, many service providers already maintain similar requirements. China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, China's three biggest telecoms companies, have required individuals and enterprises to provide their real names when subscribing to data transmission services since September 2010.
Sina Weibo, a popular microblogging site that has been used by netizens to blow the whistle on corrupt officials, has required users to register with their real names since earlier this year.
Online muckraking is not necessarily incompatible with a requirement to provide genuine identification. Many whistleblowers prefer to use their real names, as they feel this will give their claims more weight.
Other reports state that the identity policy will clamp down on the freedom of speech in Chinese cyberspace. U.S. pending home sales rise to highest level since April 2010
Home sales contracts rose to the highest level since April 2010, fresh evidence of the recovering U.S. property market, a leading U.S. industry group reported Friday.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) said its index of pending home sales, which measures the number of contracts to buy previously owned homes that have been signed but not yet closed, increased 1.7 percent from October to 106.4 in November, the highest point in two-and-a-half years.
Home sales were on a sustained uptrend, NAR chief economist Lawrence Yun said, adding "even with market frictions related to the mortgage process, home contract activity continues to improve. Home sales are recovering now based solely on fundamental demand and favorable affordability conditions."
The NAR index is a leading indicator of future existing home sales, since there is usually one or two months' lag between signing a contract and closing a deal.
A reading of 100 indicates an average level of sales activity in 2001, when the index started. The reading was above the 100 threshold from March 2003 to April 2007, and then sank as the country fell into a deep recession caused by the housing debacle.

Million shoppers for bargain search on Boxing Day in Britain
Hundreds of thousands of shoppers have flocked to shops across Britain in search of a bargain during the post Christmas Boxing Day sales.
Shopping centers and high streets across London city are packed with shoppers on the traditional Boxing Day sales despite strike action by London's underground train drivers.
Some shops even open as early as 6:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) to attract customers and some shoppers had started queuing outside major shopping centers at midnight.
Up to 7.1 million shoppers are expected to hit the shops on the day, with one in 10 venturing out for a deal before 9:00 a.m. (0900 GMT), according to research from Green Flag.
The strike by London tube drivers about bank holiday pay does not seem to have exerted too much impact on the sales, with extra buses were arranged for shoppers to travel to various shopping centers in the city.
Meanwhile, more customers have shifted to online sales on the Boxing Day. Analyst Experian predicted that Christmas this year would be the "biggest and busiest ever" for online retailers in Britain, with visits to retail websites expected to reach 126 million on Wednesday, up 31 percent on 2011 and consumers predicted to spend 472.5 million pounds online.
"Against a tough backdrop for customers and retailers alike, Christmas trading was not exceptional," said Helen Dickinson, new director general of the British Retail Consortium (BRC), in a BRC statement released on Wednesday.
As the post-Christmas sales begin, she highlighted that there's every sign that the ongoing endurance test for retailers of trading in a largely no-growth environment is likely to continue well into 2013.
Dickinson said: "Overall, Christmas hasn't been a boom time for UK retailers but it hasn't been complete doom and gloom either."
"There are big variations in individual retail performances but, when the final sums are done, total spending is likely to be up modestly on last year though only broadly in line with shop price inflation."
"As always, there was a last minute Christmas rush. It came later this year because hard-pressed customers remain cautious, wanted to hold out for bargains and there was a final full shopping weekend immediately before Christmas that the calendar didn't provide last year."
Generally, customers bought only similar amounts to last year. Sales were hard-fought and often driven by discounts so cutting into margins, though retailers worked hard to ensure they had the right products available, whether in store or online, and at the right prices.
"Sales have not collapsed but the pressure is coming from adapting to conditions that consistently deliver minimal year-on-year sales growth. There is only so much cost cutting and new efficiency retailers can achieve," said Dickinson.
She held that utility prices are likely to edge up inflation next year and people are keen to continue paying down their debt, which means the amount of money they have in their pockets will remain under pressure. (1 British pound = 1.62 U.S. dollars)
Russia to join ExoMars project in 2013
Russia would join a European mission next year to search for possible evidence of Martian life, the Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos said Wednesday.
The agreement on Russia's participation in the "ExoMars" project would be signed in the first quarter of 2013, Roscosmos chief Vladimir Popovkin told reporters.
Roscosmos discussed the move with European Space Agency (ESA) head Jean-Jacques Dorden last week, Popovkin said.
The ExoMars project, currently being developed, is a robotic mission to Mars to search for a possible biosignature of Martian life.
The project initially planned to launch a mission to Mars orbit in 2016, and send a rover in 2018 with the participation of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
However, NASA refused to provide the project with an Atlas-5 rocket to deliver a space vehicle to Mars and the ESA turned to Russia for support.
Roscosmos said it could contribute its Proton rockets.
Russia's full participation in the project would speed up the country's development of its own Mars program and cut costs, Roscosmos said.

More companies fear delisting: report
After two companies were delisted Monday, 16 others are waiting to see if they will meet the same fate before the year's end on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), the smaller of China's two bourses.
Amid a push to improve its stock delisting procedures, the SZSE said in a statement on its website on Monday that Jiangsu Chinese Online Logistics Co., Ltd. and Powerise Information Technology Co., Ltd. failed to win approval to resume trading and would be delisted.
The SZSE deliberated the status of four companies on Monday. Dandong Chemical Fibre Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Direction Photoelectricity Co., Ltd. were allowed to resume trading, while the other two were not, according to the headline story in Tuesday's Shanghai Securities News.
Jiangsu Chinese Online Logistics saw three consecutive years of losses from 2003 to 2005. It was suspended in accordance with regulations on May 15, 2006, while Powerise Information Technology saw losses from 2004 to 2006 and its trading was suspended on May 24, 2007, according to the SZSE.
Stock delisting will be a common procedure as the pro-market reform of the country's stock market goes forward, the report said, citing experts' opinions.
In late June, both the SZSE and the Shanghai Stock Exchange released programs specifying delisting criteria and requirements concerning the stock performance of listed companies. The move marked a bid to protect investors and promote the healthy development of the stock market.
So far, a total of 45 companies have been delisted from both stock exchanges in China, according to the SZSE.

In late June, both the SZSE and the Shanghai Stock Exchange released programs specifying delisting criteria and requirements concerning the stock performance of listed companies. The move marked a bid to protect investors and promote the healthy development of the stock market.
So far, a total of 45 companies have been delisted from both stock exchanges in China, according to the SZSE.
Canadian stocks drop on shortened trading day
Canadian stocks ended lower on Monday as concerns about stalled talks over the U.S. federal budget continued to capture investor's attention ahead of the Christmas holiday.
The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite index dropped 14.90 points, or 0.12 percent, to 12,370.80 in a shortened trading session that ended at 1 p.m. local time (2200 GMT) while the S&P/TSX Venture Composite index rose 7.89 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,185.60.
While fiscal cliff remains an overarching concern for investors, trading volumes were low with both Canadian and U.S. equity markets closed early at 1 p.m. local time ahead of Tuesday's Christmas holiday. Canadian markets will close for two days and re- open on Thursday, Dec. 27.
As U.S. politicians postponed their talks until after Christmas, investors feared that the U.S. economy could be pushed into a recession because of the so-called fiscal cliff.
Five of the eight sectors on the main index were lower before the Christmas Eve.
The metals and mining sector lost 0.5 percent with the March copper price slipped 0.4 percent to 3.55 U.S. dollars a pound.
The energy sector closed down 0.66 percent as concerns about the unresolved U.S. budget dispute weighed on world oil prices. Suncor Energy dropped 0.55 percent to 32.47 Canadian dollars a share, playing one of the biggest roles in dragging this sector lower.
The tech sector dropped 0.5 percent, with shares in BlackBerry maker RIM down 3.3 percent at 10.50 Canadian dollars apiece. The financial sector closed little changed, up 0.03 percent.
In currency, the Canadian dollar increased to trade at 1.0073 U. S. dollars at 1 p.m. local time (2200 GMT) on Monday, compared with 1.0071 U.S. dollar last Friday.

France sees military intervention in Mali in six months
French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Monday expected a possible military intervention to quash Islamist terrorists in northern Mali during the first six months of 2013.
"The military intervention would be over the first half next year ... For the moment, there is no political solution," the minister told the daily La Croix.
Le Drian reiterated Paris' refusal to send French combat forces to the conflict-torn African country but it will provide technical support to African troops to retake northern Malian region from Islamist insurgents.
"The concept of operation is in the process to become more refined," the minister said, adding that an European contingent of 400 troops will be formed at the beginning of next year before being sent to Mali to help training local army and preparing it to restore country's sovereignty.
On Thursday, the UN Security Council approved French-backed resolution authorizing the deployment of an African peacekeeping force known as AFISMA, for an initial one-year-mission.
Mali, a former French colony, has been struggling to stay as one united nation since a military coup in March when hardline Islamists and Tuareg rebel forces seeking an independent homeland took advantage of the chaos and seized control of the north.
India, Russia sign defense deals worth 2.9 billion U.S. dollars
India and Russia Monday inked 10 pacts, including new defense deals worth nearly 2.9 billion U.S. dollars, during Russian President Vladimir Putin's day-long visit to the Indian capital.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Putin held talks on wide-ranging issues such as economic and military ties as well as civil nuclear cooperation in relation to the Kudankulam nuclear power plant jointly built by India and Russia in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
"We deeply value Russia's steadfast friendship and support for India, unaffected by global developments. This relationship has a special place in the hearts and minds of Indians, and India remains committed to further deepening it," Singh told media after the talks.
The two leaders also discussed the security situation in the region including Afghanistan.
"We reviewed the developments in Afghanistan and agreed to work together against threats posed by extremist ideologies and drug trafficking. India and Russia share the objective of a stable, united, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan, free from extremism, " Singh said.
Under the defense deals signed by the two countries, India will buy 42 Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets and 71 Mil Mi-17 helicopters from Moscow, sources said, while under the economic pacts, the two countries will promote foreign direct investment, which envisages investment up to two billion U.S. dollars.
India and Russia have maintained close ties since the Cold War. India is Russia's main military equipment importer, though in the recent years New Delhi has also inked defense deals with the U.S. and Israel.

U.S. VP Biden convenes gun-control task force
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden convened the first meeting of the White House's gun-control working group on Thursday, bringing together law enforcement officials and Cabinet secretaries.
Biden said the group would work to find "a comprehensive way in which to respond to the mass murder of our children that we saw in Connecticut."
The vice president said there was "no reason" why an updated assault weapons ban could not pass Congress. He said he would call on the law enforcement officials to help in a legislative push against "everything from cop-killer bullets to type of weapons that should be off the street."
Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and top White House aides attended the meeting.
U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced the gun- control task force led by Biden to be charged with guiding the administration's continuing response to calls of gun control after the Connecticut elementary school massacre.
Obama promised the taskforce would make proposals for new laws and actions in January, and he would push the new gun control proposals in Congress.
Biden will work with cabinet members and outside groups to formulate the recommendations, as the president called on Congress to reinstate an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and to pass legislation that would close the gun show loophole, which allows people to purchase firearms without a background check.
In addition to bans on the sale of assault weapons and high- capacity ammunition clips, the White House would push a law that requires background checks on all gun purchases to prevent legal loopholes, said the White House spokesman Jay Carney during a daily briefing on Thursday.
Carney added that the president would also call on Congress to "take action to improve coordination between the federal government and state and local law enforcement to keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals."
A gunman on last Friday opened fire in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, killing 20 kids and 6 adults, before committing suicide. The same shooter killed his mother earlier in the day at her home near the school.
Tel Aviv bus bomber rehearsed attack: report
A Palestinian who planted a bomb on a bus in Tel Aviv made "practice runs" prior to the attack that wounded 27 people last month, the Ynet news site reported Thursday.
Muhammad Mafarji, 18, a resident of the West Bank village of Beit Lakiya, boarded buses travelling to Tel Aviv at least twice in the two days before the bombing, in order to scope out the best route and ensure that he was not rousing suspicion, the report said, citing new details of an investigation by security forces.
"I did this because of Operation Pillar of Defense," Ynet quoted the bomber as telling police investigators, referring to an Israeli offensive against militants in the Gaza Strip that took place at the time he carried out the attack.
A Tel Aviv court on Wednesday indicted Mafarji of planting the remote-controlled bomb that ripped through the No. 142 bus near the nation's military headquarters, charging him with multiple counts of attempted murder and aiding the enemy during wartime.
The bomber, who worked at a McDonald's branch in the Israeli city of Modiin and carried an Israeli ID that enabled him unrestricted movement in the country, reportedly told investigators that he had boarded two buses before activating the device on a metro bus.
He claimed to had initially boarded a bus to Tel Aviv that was packed with commuters, but decided against activating it then and there since it was "full of children and I didn't want them to get hurt," according to Ynet.
Once in Tel Aviv, he boarded another bus that was mostly empty before boarding a third packed with passengers. It was then that he activated the device, disembarked and phoned his handler to report that the bomb is in place and ready for detonation.
By the time it went off, Mafarji was on a train, heading back to his shift at McDonald's, where police counter-terrorism teams apprehended him several hours later, the report said.
His three accomplices in the attack, all affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad, also plotted to assassinate Israeli ministers and were weighing attacks against soldiers and civilians, including suicide bombings and drive-by shootings, the Shin Bet security service said in a statement issued Wednesday after a gag order was rescinded.
The agency said that the four men were in the process of collecting intelligence for these attacks at the time of their arrest.
Ahmad Moussa, the cell's leader, had "extensively researched" the internet for information on producing bombs, according to the Shin Bet statement.
Outraged by Israel's assassination of Hamas military chief Ahmed al-Jaabari and the military campaign against Gaza militants that ensued, he assembled and delivered the bomb detonated on the bus, commandeered the attack and activated the device himself with a cell phone, the statement said.
The cell's remaining members, who were arrested within hours of the attack and admitted to their involvement, were named as Fuad Azai, 27, an Islamic Jihad operative previously imprisoned in Israel, and Muhammad Damara, 25, a member of Hamas.
The Shin Bet statement said the latter planned to recruit volunteers from a Palestinian university in the West Bank for suicide bombings in Israel.

Lin goes Linvisible in Rockets loss to Raptors
Jeremy Lin scored only seven points in a 96-103 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday afternoon.
"It was a disappointing one (game)," said Lin, during the post-game press conference. "We obviously didn't get the win and I didn't think we played particularly well. Not the best feeling, but we have another one tomorrow."
Last season, the phenomenon known as Linsanity was at its height when Lin hit a game-winning three-pointer with less than a second left against the Raptors.
One season later, the buzz has cooled off and Lin's performance has fell been inconsistent.
The single-digit scoring output was already the 11th time this season he has failed to score more than 10 points in the 23 games as a starter. Last season with the Knicks, Lin had only three games with less than 10 points in his 25 games as a starter.
When asked to comment his performance so far this season, Lin used one word to describe it, "Terrible," said Lin. "I think I'm not doing close to what I'm capable of doing. It's a matter of figuring out of how to play more like myself within the system."
The system employed by Rockets head coach Kevin McHale has been difficult to execute this season, as the roster experienced high turnover in an offseason that saw the departures of ten players via trade of free agency.
"I think a lot of guys are searching for themselves and trying to figure out where they are. A lot of times guys are searching for their offense. We just could not get anything going (today)," said McCale after the game.
Along with Lin, teammates James Harden and Omer Asik were the three key offseason additions made by Rockets general manager, Daryl Morey.
Lin understands that change does not result in immediate success.
"It's a process and it's pretty early on; it doesn't feel like it because 23 games is a college season. We've got to look at the big picture; there's still a lot to grow and a lot to learn," said Lin. "The biggest thing for all of us as a team is comfort. When you're comfortable, everything is easy, everything flows and right now, we don't have that."
The Rockets will need to find their form as their next match is against the 18-5 New York Knicks tomorrow night. For Lin, it will mark the return to Madison Square Garden for the first time since his offseason signing with Houston.
"This will be my first return back to MSG, and there'll never be another first return," said Lin. "There will probably be a bit of nostalgia, or reminiscing, and thankful for those times because those were great times. At the same time, it's the next chapter."
Robinho wants to leave, says Allegri
AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Sunday that Robinho wanted go home to Brazil.
"Robinho has told us he wants to go home to Brazil. Obviously, if he changes his mind then we will be very happy to keep him here, but if he wants to go then it' s right he does," Allegri said following his side's 4-1 win over Pescara.
Brazilian club Santos have confirmed they are in negotiations for Robinho after their initial offer was rejected.
Allegri urge his side to carry on their good form in order to catch up with the leading teams.
"We must continue working, because we are trying to do our best and are still quite a few points off the top," he said.

Eurogroup formally approves disbursement of new bailout loans to Greece
The Eurogroup on Thursday formally approved the disbursement of 49.1 billion euros (about 64.1 billion U.S. dollars) to Greece under the second international bailout program, Eurogroup president Jean-Claude Juncker announced.
The desperately-needed disbursement will be made in two tranches, with 34.3 billion euros expected to be paid out to Greece "in the following days" and the rest be disbursed early next year, Juncker said at a press conference after a meeting of eurozone finance ministers.
The decision was made after the "finalization of the relevant national procedures and after having reviewed the outcome of the debt buy-back operation conducted by Greece," he added.
Eurozone finance ministers and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed on Nov. 27 that Greek public debt should fall to 124 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), instead of the original 120 percent, in 2020 through a package of extra debt cutting measures.
The Eurogroup reaffirmed that the loan disbursement together with the debt cutting measures and the implementation of the bailout program by Greece would bring Greece's public debt back on a sustainable path, Juncker said.
Greece and other eurozone member states are prepared to take additional measures, if necessary, to ensure that the new debt target is met, he said.
Philippines maintains policy rates
Philippine monetary officials decided Thursday to keep policy interest rates steady on back of a manageable inflation outlook amid strong growth.
The overnight borrowing rates or reverse repurchase facility ( RRP) is unchanged at 3.50 percent while overnight lending or repurchase facility (RP) is at 65.50 percent. The interest rates on terms RRPs, RPs and special deposit accounts were also left unchanged.
The reserve requirement ratios were kept steady as well.
Central Bank Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr said that current monetary settings remain appropriate and the cumulative 100 basis point reduction in policy rates for this year continues to benefit the local economy.
The country's economic managers expect the higher-than-expected 7.1 percent growth in the third quarter to continue for the rest of the year thanks to steady consumer spending. While this may lead to higher prices, Tetangco said financial woes in the United States and Europe will temper global sentiment and mitigate upward pressures on commodity prices.
"The latest baseline forecasts follow a slightly lower path but remained within the lower bound of the target over the policy horizon," Tetangco said.
Tetangco said they will continue to monitor price and output conditions to ensure that their monetary policy stance will keep prices stable and support growth.

The common failures encountered in daily operation

"There are two basic recipes for limoncello: using grain alcohol that produces a product of 33-35 percent alcohol content; or using vodka, producing a 20-25 percent alcohol product. I use the vodka recipe, as it is much softer than the grain-alcohol version," Rush said.
He said there are also two schools of thought on whether to use whole lemon rinds or to zest the lemons.
"My thoughts are this: If the rind and the pith are equal diameters, use the whole rind," Rush said. "If the diameter of the pith exceeds the rind, zest half the lemons, and use the whole rind for the other half. The rationale is, like wine with good tannins, a certain tannic or bitter quality in the background, will produce a good limoncello, which will be balanced by the sugar content of the lemons and simple syrup, and smoothed out by the vanilla."

The Bookstore's Christmas gift is literacy to children
BYU Bookstore partnered with United Way’s Christmas Literacy Giving
Tree in November to donate books to children 18-months to 16 years old
in an effort to spread the “gift of literacy.”
United Way has worked with the BYU Bookstore every Christmas season for the last three years. According to a press release, donated books will go to the Utah County Sub for Santa program, the Utah County Angel Tree Program or the Utah County Everyday Learners Program. Donations will be open until Dec. 15.
Hillary Millecam, the Bookstore’s marketing specialist, said it is important that students participate because it is a good way to help children improve their standard of living. “If anybody needs help from us, I believe it’s children,” Millecam said. “If we help them now, we can give them a fair and equal chance to succeed academically by giving them the gift of literacy and reading.“
In previous years, students, faculty or visitors could only purchase a book from the Giving Tree to participate. This year anyone can also donate a dollar to United Way to help buy new books for donation. Millecam said it’s an easy way for students to be involved in a cause that she feels obligated to be a part of.
“I think that as students we sometimes forget how much support we get from others to help us succeed in our education,” she said. “We have been given the opportunity to get an education and learn so we can improve our living conditions, and I feel obligated to help the next generation receive the same learning opportunities.”

Renewable energy provider Hydro Tasmania announced earlier this week its intention to investigate TasWind, a 600 megawatt wind farm consisting of around 200 turbines likely to be located on King Island.
The idea is to sell and transmit electricity generated into the National Energy Market via a high-voltage direct current underwater cable across Bass Strait, with a landing point in Victoria.
Should it go ahead, the company estimates the wind farm will produce around 2,400 gigawatt hours of renewable energy for the national market – enough to power 240,000 homes, represent more than five percent of Australia’s Renewable Energy Target and reduce the amount of carbon entering the atmosphere by around 1.9 million tonnes per year.
While stressing the proposal is in early stages, Hydro Tasmania says it would provide significant benefits for King Island. In addition to opportunities in construction – it is expected to produce 500 jobs at peak construction and 10-20 ongoing jobs during operation – these would include likely upgrades to the port, upgrades to many roads, more airport traffic, opportunities to develop better communication services (a fibre connection with mainland Australia will be required) and higher levels of international exposure, which may support the ‘Clean Green’ brand.
The $2 billion project is expected to create 500 jobs over a two-year construction period and represent what the government says will mark the island state’s largest ever infrastructure development.

Announcing the launch of Vensys 87 (V-87), a 1.5 MW turbine, Managing Director of ReGen Powertech Pvt. Ltd., Madhusudan Khemka, said it was the third turbine from the company in the last four years. These had been developed in collaboration with Vensys Energy AG of Germany.
V-87 would deliver a 15 per cent increase in annual energy production over V-77, the company’s first product, and 5-7 per cent more annual energy production over V-82 in the 85-metre configuration.
The new turbine, for which the company has pre-launch orders of Rs.1,800 crore for 279 MW, was priced marginally higher than the earlier products, he said.
The company, which has a manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, is setting up a plant in Udaipur.
The total investment, including on the blade plant for which ReGen is likely to have technology tie-up with LM Wind Power, would be Rs.450 crore.
Kenersys India
Kenersys India introduced two turbines for the Indian market — K98 1.8 MW and K120 2.3 MW. Both these would be commercialised by early 2014, its Chief Executive Officer Kailash Tarachandani said. The new products were designed keeping in mind low wind conditions, land challenges and grid issues. The company has manufacturing facilities in Baramati and in Germany. In 2011-12, the company installed 40 MW projects and this year was expecting to touch 70-80 MW.

Yoghurt Week: Mango Popsicles
Todays yoghurt recipe is another one you can feel good about eating on a hot summer day mango popsicles! With the freshest and best-quality ingredients, these will go down a treat with everyone.
The recipe comes from the big tub of Chobani 2% Greek Yoghurt, but can also be found at the Chobani Kitchen website. I prepared these popsicles in the molds that Chobani Australia sent me along with all that delicious yoghurt (see Yoghurt Week: Banana Bread).
Chobani likes to call these popsicles Mango Frocho Pops, which I think is pretty cute! Theyve replaced froyo, short for frozen yoghurt, with frocho, short for frozen Chobani!
Youll need just four ingredients to bring these popsicles together: Chobani 2% Greek Yoghurt (or good-quality low-fat Greek yoghurt), fresh mangos (frozen will also work), a lemon, and honey. To prepare, simply throw everything in a food processor (a blender will also do the trick), process until smooth and pour into your popsicle molds. Im sure you could also make these in a Zoku Quick Pop Maker as well, which I do actually own, but I wanted to use the special Chobani molds for this post!
We loved the flavor of the Mango Frocho Pops! Im a little picky at times, so Id say the only thing I didnt like was the popsicle was a little bit too icy, rather than creamy. I would owe this to the fact that the yoghurt is low-fat. Perhaps a full-fat yoghurt would yield a creamier-textured popsicle. Feel free to experiment, and let me know how it goes!
